Guest Artists

Jenny Vick

It is an honour and a privilege to be invited to be a guest artist by the Terang Community Art Show.

I have now been painting for almost 10 years.  My present medium of choice is oil, sometimes beginning with an acrylic base to block in my scene.  I am still experimenting with my colour pallet and level of detail to best incorporate recognisable features and create realist and appealing results.  Watching the scene emerge as the work progresses is a fascination of which I’ll never tire.

I draw inspiration from the stunning natural landscape that surrounds me.  The Grampians to the Great Ocean Road and many places between are a constant and dramatic source of wonder, and much of my current work is based on these two iconic areas.

I admire works by contemporary artists such as Warwick Fuller, also the finely detailed landscapes of Eugene von Guerard and the Australian impressionists, Frederick McCubbin, Arthur Streeton and Tom Roberts, and often find myself investigating their use of colour.

In March this year (2021) I exhibited three paintings in the Penshurst Photography and Art Prize and was awarded the prize for the Best Oil Painting for my “Reward for the Walk” (View from the Pinnacle) and also received a Highly Commended award for my “Venus Baths” painting.  I have previously taken part in two group exhibitions arranged through the Outlaw Gallery, Warrnambool.

Asha Roche

My name is Asha Roche I’m 26 and a proud Peek Whurrong / Palawa women. I studied studio arts and photography throughout school, however I am mostly self taught originally starting with cartoon and character drawing.

While studying at University I was able to start creating contemporary Indigenous artworks as a way of reconnecting with my culture. With permission from Elders I was able to build a collection of artworks that were shown at the Melbourne Pavilion. I have now worked with multiple councils to showcase Indigenous art and culture,  together with Warrnambool city council kindergartners creating a showcase for their Language program( shown at the lighthouse theatre called ‘Kareitch Meereeng Waetnanda’(Healing country together)), I was also a key mentor in the WAG Ngatook collective supporting young Indigenous girls  year 7 - 12 in creating and manufacturing works created by the students. I have worked  creating commissions for St John of God Warrnambool in the formal of a 2m mural and been one of four selected local artists to feature in a first ever virtual gallery created by the Moyne shire.

I believe that I was made to be an artist. I paint very intuitively from the soul, connecting with the earth. I often paint stories of my own dreaming or based upon a particular life event. I feel very connected to the ocean and rivers and they often feature in my works.
